South Florida Magazine Endorses Scott Singer for Mayor of Boca Raton
Dear Readers, from the desk of Scott Singer: Politics has changed my opponent. With election day around the corner, he is filling mailboxes and inboxes with false rumors and political hypocrisy.
After 4 failed campaigns across South Florida, you would think he would know better. But he hasn’t learned and it’s sad.
Not so long ago, Mr. Zucaro appreciated my tough votes against overdevelopment. He praised my stance against commercial rezoning of the Wildflower. But then he decided he wanted to be mayor – and he scrubbed his servers to erase his prior statements from his partisan blog.
Yes, he actually did that!
Luckily, our neighbors saved them, as did I. Here are just a few examples of Al Zucaro talking about my record, before ambition got the best of him:
“Only Councilman Singer recognizes the benefits of providing and protecting recreational greenspace”
“Mr. Singer is reaching out to the community to come together towards a long-range plan for a world-class waterfront”
“I continue to believe Councilman Singer is our best hope for measured approach to good governance here in Boca Raton”
“Everyone knows that Councilman Singer is working the hardest of all the councilmembers to bridge the gap between residents and city leadership”
“You would make an excellent strong mayor”
I believe when you say something, it means something. And in my 4 years on the City Council and as your Mayor I have kept my promises – and made sure you always have a seat at the table.
I’m proud of my record of working with neighborhood leaders to make our community better through smart and balanced solutions – and having the guts to say no to too-much, too-big development projects that were wrong for our community. A few examples:
- Midtown - Approved 0 units of 2,500 requested. (Ord. 5433-35)
- Northwest PM - Stopped plan cold for 2,000 more apartments (Ord. 5312)
- University Village - Sole vote against city's single biggest upzoning and 500,000 sq. ft. of development (Ord. 5328)
- Wildflower - Opposed rezoning parcel to commercial and Houston's deal (Ord. 5353)
- Hidden Valley - Opposed residential upzoning on recreational land (Ord. 5444)
Friends, we are winning this race, but be ready for some wild rumors coming from my opponent in the last days of this campaign, as people come to realize who he really is and the truth about his record.
